QLD Health Education Team
The concept of the AVVRG Qld –
Health Education Team (Q-HET) was born in late 2009 out of the desire of Mental Health Clinicians to make a difference by providing education and support to Mental Health staff at the Chau Duc Mental Health Hospital in Ba Ria/Vung Tau Province, Vietnam. In turn this has allowed mental health clinicians to learn from mental health counterparts in Vietnam, particularly to gain a greater insight into the cultural aspects of mental health in Vietnam.
Our first visit to Chau Duc Hospital took place in October 2010 and this was the International Year of the Nurse with the theme Nurses –Making a Difference in Global Health. Most significant in the campaign was the contribution nurses are making to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) and we chose to focus on MDG 8 Global Partnership for Development.
Consistent with this theme, a partnership has been developed with the Chau Duc Mental Health Hospital with subsequent visits in 2012 and 2014, whilst in 2013 the Chau Duc Hospital Director of Nursing co presented with Q-HET and the Victorian team at the International Council of Nurses Conference, Melbourne, and in December 2014 Q-HET presented at the 1st International Nursing Conference, Ho Chi Minh.
A partnership is also currently being developed with the Vietnam Nurses Association and the Pham Ngoc Thach University and our goal is to work collaboratively with the university and health care providers to develop a post graduate mental health nursing program.
The founding members of the team are located in the South East Corner of Queensland, however we welcome members from any part of Australia.
